Hobeck Books

Hobeck Books, founded in December 2019, just a couple of months before the country entered a pandemic lockdown, is the brainchild of broadcaster Adrian Hobart and publisher Rebecca Collins. Rebecca and Adrian run the company together with the help of a number of freelance editors and designers. Rebecca, an author and artist, brings her expertise and know-how from over two decades working in the publishing industry with clients such as Bloomsbury and Summersdale. Adrian was a broadcaster and journalist with the BBC for twenty-five years and is now an audiobook narrator as well as a publisher. The aim of Hobeck is to build a family ethos, combining the best of traditional publishing standards and indie marketing techniques to build an audience and engage with readers. Since 2019, the company has built up a stable of 23 authors. Their authors’ books have been long- and shortlisted for national awards in the crime fiction genre including the CWA daggers, Bloody Scotland and the Ngaio Marsh Award. All their books are published as ebooks and paperbacks. Most also are also in audio. Hobeck Books also runs the charity short story competition, the Henshaw Press Short Story Competition, which runs four times a year. Adrian and Rebecca also host a weekly podcast called The Hobcast Book Show where together they interview authors, agents, editors, festivals organisers, booksellers and designers and they also discuss weekly publishing news. Guests have included Sir Ian Rankin, Elly Griffiths, Tina Baker, Denise Mena and Kate Mosse.
