Istros Books

Istros was founded in 2011 to provide a platform for writing from SE Europe and the Balkans. In our 12-year history we have published 8 winners of the EU Prize for Literature and our titles have been listed for the Oxford-Weidenfeld, the Republic of Consciousness and the Dublin Literary Prize, as well as winning a number of English PEN Translation awards. We have published forgotten classics from such prestigious writers as the Romanian historian of comparative religion, Mircea Elaide as well as essays by the contemporary philosopher Slavoj Žižek and the work of former Albanian dissident, Fatos Lubonja. Our titles are regularly reviewed in the British and Irish media (TLS, The Irish Times, Guardian, Spectator, Jewish Chronicle, etc) as well as the LA Review of Books and on various literary blog sites. To quote Kapka Kassabova in the Guardian, “…nourishment to readers hungry for the best new European fiction, and to those wondering where the new generation of post-Yugoslav novelists are.”
