the87press

the87press was co-founded by South-Asian poets Kashif Sharma-Patel and Azad Ashim Sharma with initial design input from architect Devin Maisuria and graphic design studio s-designs. Established on principles of equity, (late) modernism, anti-colonialism, anti-racism, environmentalism, marxism and social justice, the87press quickly became the London home for countercultural, hybrid, and experimental works of poetry, prose, and non-fiction from racialised, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and working class authors. Following a string of memorable collaborations with leading arts and educational institutions in the UK and in Europe alongside a public lecture series on Marxist Theory with Sean O’Brien, the87press ascended to Arts Council England’s National Portfolio in 2023 and added photographer Sopo Ramischwili and videographer Aisheshek Magauina to their core team alongside an advisory board full of publishing industry expects and pedagogical practitioners to support a new public facing direction for the press. Today the87press continues to use publishing as a basis for community engagement through the literary arts, participating in civil society projects and wider local and international collaborations. Recently, the87press has published a series of emergent and early-career writers from the US and its diasporic communities, offering UK debuts for stand out and award-winning poetry collections. All authors, regardless of age, class, race, gender, sexuality, ability, receive the same terms of contract under an organisation wide equity policy. or As of 2025, the87press is distributed in the UK and EU by Inpress and in the US and Canada by Wesleyan University Press, printing in small batches and combining environmentally conscious materials with bespoke design. The87press produces eBooks through the Faber Factory Programme. The87press is a signatory of PACBI, a vocal supporter of Fossil Free Books, and manifests a non-profit ethos as a Community Interest Company.
