Bullaun Press
Founded in 2021, Bullaun Press is Ireland’s first independent publishing house dedicated to literature in translation into English.
We are committed to seeking out new voices of contemporary relevance and bringing them to a wider audience. The translator’s role is key and we work in close partnership with them. We aim to promote the wealth of cultural heritage represented by the speakers of many different languages in today’s Irish society.
The books are printed on FSC-certified paper, and we pledge to plant at least ten native trees in the west of Ireland for every title Bullaun produces through Hometree, the Wild Atlantic Rainforest Project.
Our first titles include:
I Am Lewy, Mícheál Ó hAodha’s acclaimed rendition of Eoghan Ó Tuairisc’s An Lomnochtán (1977) – a little-read classic from the Irish language;
Without Waking Up – Deirdre McMahon’s translation of einmal muss ich über weiches Gras gelaufen sein (2012) from Austrian author Carolina Schutti, who received the 2015 EU Prize for Literature for this novel;
Forgottenness from multi-award-winning Ukrainian author Tanja Maljartschuk, translated by Zenia Tompkins.
Bullaun Press is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
