Zhengguang Yang

Yang Zhengguang was born in Qian County, Xianyang, Shaanxi Province in 1958. A graduate of Shandong University, he began his literary career by composing poetry, subsequently becoming a very influential writer and playwright. He is perhaps best known in Mainland China for his acclaimed TV serialisation of The Outlaws of the Marsh for which the future First Lady Peng Liyuan sang the theme song.

Mr Yang’s novella How Old Dan Became a Tree was adapted into a feature film starring Cillian Murphy and formed the title work in a collection of English translations of his stories, published by Valley Press, UK. His novel The Hour of the Locust (Valley Press) and Water From the Eaves: Selected Poems of Yang Zhengguang (Shaanxi Normal University Publishing House) are also both available in English.

Now dividing his time between Shaanxi and Shenzhen, Yang Zhengguang is the founder and CEO of the Chang’an Film and Television Production Company and has served as chairman of the Shenzhen Association of Literature and Art.
