Rosie, Starfish, Breakfast

Reflective, eclectic and inspiringly curious, Rosie, Starfish, Breakfast is an experimental mixed-media collection that threads between geographical and digital cultures like fibre-optic cables across the seabed. Writer Zahra Hamdulay’s autofiction narratives and explorations, simultaneously thoughtful and spontaneous, map out the mirroring of cross-cultural living and how our lives and relationships have become irreversibly interconnected with how the digital world is embraced in contemporary lifestyles.
Hamdulay investigates transactional love and affection in the digital age; tailoring the image of a relationship for Insta-perfection (while making sure to keep receipts), photographing wallet-bound mementos filed between emblematic cards and coupons, attending webinars on building a ‘rainy day fund’. Across collated interviews with authors, radicalising content interspliced with short-form entertainment, and a financial literacy coming-of-age, Rosie, Starfish, Breakfast explores the ever-developing search for identity, for certainty, in the era of the internet.
