The Aftershock Review

The Aftershock Review is an independent, survivor-led poetry press based in Lancashire, founded by poet and editor Max Wallis.

We publish bold, emotionally urgent poetry about what comes after: trauma, illness, grief, addiction, madness, queerness, class, survival, recovery and care. Alongside our large-format poetry magazine, we publish full collections through Aftershock Poets and themed pamphlets through our Pocket Aftershock series.

Since launching, we have published acclaimed and emerging poets side by side, reached readers internationally and secured national distribution through Gardners. The Guardian described The Aftershock Review as “a jolt to the mainstream”, and two poems first published in our opening issue were longlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem.

Our aim is to build a fairer, more accessible and more ambitious home for poetry that might otherwise be overlooked.

After trauma, there is still poetry.
